Louise Baker is a painter working in oil and acrylic, known primarily for her graceful impressionistic compositions. Her paintings are characterized by a sensitive use of colour and dynamic brushstrokes: with her subjects sometimes dissolving in their pale environments in a flurry of unfocused strokes; sometimes jumping out of the canvas in contrasting bright colours with some judicious strong lines; but always capturing a mood, the quality of light, a season, a sensation. She earned a degree in visual communications from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since her retirement as an art director in 2001, she has made painting a priority. Louise has taught workshops and accepts private commissions. Louise has been part of many juried group exhibitions and her paintings are held in private collections throughout North America.
