Kit Clarke is an artist working primarily in collage and assemblage. The many layers in her work make evident her “love affair with paper, images and text”. She carefully builds them using various media, found objects, pieces of paper and vellum. A narrative emerges in this juxtaposition by selective abstraction and emphasis, colour and texture. Her interiors, landscapes, and florals are at timesnostalgic, ethereal, and charming, but always intriguing. Kit Clarke began her fine art studies at The Central Technical School in Toronto, Ontario in 1968. She continued her studies at the Chicago Art Institute in Illinois in 1970. Finally settling in Nova Scotia in 1972 to complete her degree at NSCAD University specializing in printmaking and art education. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, USA, Britain and Denmark, where it is in private and public collections including the Nova Scotia Art Bank.
