Kate Georgallas is a visual artist versatile in a variety of media, styles and subject matter. Her original etchings and paintings range stylistically from the realistic to the decorative, working towards “the simplification of form and the expressive posture of my model.” Kate’s work is characterized by her use of bright, pure colour, emphasis on line and elegant minimalist compositions. Kate earned a BA (Theatre) from the University of Ottawa, in 1985; a BA (Art Education) from NSCAD in 1989; and various fine art courses in St.FX University, Ottawa College of Art, Inverness Art Centre, Mount Allison University & NSCAD from 1980 to 2004. She designed and created theatre sets, painted prominent public murals in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and illustrated books, including the children’s book, Sandy Chisholm’s Chanter Lessons by Scott Williams. Kate has taught art at St. Francis Xavier University since 1990, where she currently teaches as a sessional professor . Her work has exhibited in juried printmaking shows in New York, USA and Kyoto, Japan; it is in private and public collections.
