Joanne Gallant-Chilton is a visual artist versed in photography and painting. In the past, she explored many media types (including digital photography, video, acrylic and watercolour) in her search for a form of expression that felt introspective for both the viewer and the artist. This creative search led her to oils and mixed media painting, as well as to abstract work, in which she sees a truly contemplative output. Joanne’s artwork is inspired by nature, travel, found objects and history, though her colour palette is influenced mostly by the seasons. She typically uses cold wax medium, oil paint, powdered pigments, pastels, charcoal, and paper. Often the result is many layers and textures, giving depth and richness, evoking memories and calmness within. Joanne has taken part in workshops and courses with accomplished international artists in the US, Ireland, and Mexico. Within Canada she has exhibited throughout Nova Scotia and PEI; in the US in Colorado and Minnesota. Her pieces are held in private collections across North America. Joanne’s work has been featured in numerous national and international publications, and in 2003 was awarded Best Cover Art in the Literary Journal Category by the Canadian Magazine Publishers Association.
