Barbara McLean is a painter primarily working in acrylic. Her work's energy and passion leaves no doubt as to why she is a prominent name in abstract art in Nova Scotia. Dynamic gestures often lead into areas of more subtle investigation. There is a sense of mystery in many of the paintings —hinting that a discovery is just beyond view— perceivable if only one could look long enough. "When I am working, the outside world disappears, leaving me to search for something that is beyond the concrete and beyond words, but at the same time, something that is very important to me, something best communicated through the medium of paint." Barbara is a graduate of Graphic Design from Sheridan College, and has a BFA with a major in fine art from NSCAD University. She conducts workshops for art associations throughout Nova Scotia. Her work has been purchased by the Shannex Corporation, Nova Scotia Art Bank, GPI Atlantic, as well as many private collectors across Canada, USA, and South Korea.
