Robert Rutherford

Robert Rutherford is a printmaker working almost exclusively in silkscreen and with the Maritime landscape as subject matter.
Robert’s unique and recognizable style is prized for its soothing colour palette of primarily soft blues and greens, as well as, his stylized tranquil landscapes. His mostly rural Maritime provinces are seductive and idyllic while capturing the ephemeral: time, movement, and light as it plays in reflecting bodies of water.

Robert’s interest in art began at Trinity College School, while under the instruction of David Blackwood. He was awarded scholarships to study at the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Ontario College of Art and Design where he studied printmaking with Frederick Hagen. He also spent a year in France, studying at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts d'Avignon.

His work has been featured in film, book covers, and recently an animation. He is represented in corporate and private collections across the country, among them: the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Art Bank, the Royal Military College, St. Francis Xavier University, Owens Art Gallery (Mount Allison University), and the University of Toronto.
