Nancy Roberts

Nancy Roberts is a sculptor who works with a variety of different clay types. Nancy hand builds one-of-a-kind pieces by using different construction methods and finishes. Her work is always inventive, emphasizing texture and the tactile qualities of a piece, as well as form and movement: leaves come alive as scorpions, kelp has a life of its own, and cabbages sprout feet. She cites as her inspiration “the thrill of both solving technical challenges and representing a thought or feeling.”

Nancy Roberts discovered clay through evening classes at the Findlay Centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 2004. She credits instructors Carol Smeraldo at Atlantic Pottery Supply School and Richard Notkin at Haystack Mountain School of Craft in Maine, for her finally transitioning from functional wares to sculpture in 2007.

Her work has appeared in juried group shows as well as solo shows in Florida, Philadelphia, New York State, and Nova Scotia.
