Kath Kornelsen Rutherford

Kath Kornelsen Rutherford is a printmaker working primarily in the engraving processes of Mezzotint and Drypoint. The inherent softness of these processes, combined with her drawing prowess and choice of subject matter, result in layered dreamlike images that invite the viewer to further observation and continued enjoyment. Her subject matter (often in the form of a play on words - many of them centered in Maritime folklore) reveals a sense of humour and witticism that goes beyond the visually stunning images she so carefully crafts.

She studied under David Silverberg at Mount Allison University, and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design under Edward Porter.

Kath twice received the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award. She has also been awarded a Professional Artists Development Grant from the Nova Scotia Department of Culture. Her work is represented in many public and corporate collections including the Canada Council Art Bank, the Nova Scotia Art Bank, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Hudson’s Bay Company.
